What is an MRI scan?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. An MRI machine is a giant magnet that uses radio waves to take pictures of your body’s organs and structures. It’s safe, as long as you don’t have any metallic implants that are incompatible with MRI scanning (e.g. a pacemaker or certain metallic orthopaedic implants). Because of the magnetic field, you may not wear any jewellery or clothing that have metallic components during your MRI.

Are MRI scans safe?

Yes, MRI scans have been around since the 1980s and have a safe track record (and added bonus: pain-free). Unlike other medical imaging procedures such as CT (CAT scan) and X-ray, MRI scans don’t expose you to harmful radiation.

Why does Ezra use MRI & CT?

MRI’s and CT scans are good as different types of imagery. MRI scans better evaluate the flow of bodily fluids, provide better soft-tissue contrast, and can image tissue near bones. CT scans are preferred for identifying specific cancers, such as lung cancer. Ezra uses both to provide the most comprehensive full body screening.

Which Ezra Scan is best for me?

Ezra has 3 scan options designed to cater to your needs. Here are the differences:

MRI Scan: 500+ conditions including cancers of the brain, thyroid, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, bladder, ovaries, uterus, and prostate. Also scans for risk of strokes, risk of aneurysms, abnormal cysts, endometriosis, fatty liver, fibroids, kidney stones, hernias, iron overload, and diverticulitis.

MRI Scan with Spine: Everything in the MRI Scan, plus spine-specific coverage to detect herniated discs, cervical spinal stenosis, myelomalacia, spondylosis, spinal lesions, fractures, scoliosis, avascular necrosis, multiple myeloma, arthritis, and degenerative changes.

MRI Scan with Skeletal and Neurological Assessment: Everything in the MRI Scan with Spine. Also includes: scans for signs of neurodegeneration, multiple sclerosis and dementia; adds brain age analysis and body composition assessment (fat and muscle volume); hip evaluation for labrum, cartilage, and joint health; knee evaluation for meniscus, ACL, and MCL injuries.

What happens after my Ezra Scan?

We will reach out in approximately 7 to 10 days from your final scan date when your results are in.

You will receive an email when your report is ready.Your Ezra Report will translate your findings into straight-forward language and discuss next steps and recommendations. You will get a copy of the original radiology reports at the end of your Ezra report and you will have online access to your scan images.

We recommend sharing your results with your GP for their review and to discuss how they fit into your overall health.
